This just proves that this category of “wild card” is the ideal classification that any reasonable actor, or director should want to be, or work with. I believe that Charlize Theron will always be placed in the “wild card” category because I do not see how such a flexible actress would go backwards from being, in a sense, a multi-purpose, or all-purpose actress. It is the flexibility of her acting abilities that makes her fall into the wild card type because she is “difficult to classify as one type” ( 1). I like the intelligent, strong, and (pardon my words) bad-ass female role that she played in Mad Max: Fury Road, from 2015. As a wild card actress, she has been the bad girl, the good girl, and even the dark-sided woman of mystery. However, she has also acted in films such as Mighty Joe Young in 1998, The Devil’s Advocate in 1997, The Legend of Bagger Vance in 2000, and The Italian Job and Monster, both in 2003 ( 2). I have to classify Tom Hardy as a character actor because he shows that he is “able to fit invisibly into a wide variety of disparate characters, adapting to the needs of each script and director” that he gets to work with ( 1). Tom Hardy has played many different character types, but there seems to be a consistency to his abilities. The actors that I will be analyzing are Tom Hardy (Mad Max), Nicholas Hoult (Nux), and Charlize Theron (Imperator Furiosa). For the purposes off this blog, I will be using the film Mad Max: Fury Road.
